Writer/director Cedric Klapisch (L'AUBERGE ESPAGNOLE, PARIS) returns with the energetic and insightful My Piece of the Pie, a contemporary drama with a comedic edge, a timely social bent, and a surprising twist. Actress Karin Viard is mesmerizing as fiery single mother France, a blue-collar worker who loses her job when the local factory in her French seaside town closes down. Faced with having to support her three children, with no job prospects in sight, France enrolls herself in a housekeeper training program and lands a position cleaning the Paris apartment of handsome but cocky power broker Steve (Gilles Lellouche).

Though the setup sounds cliche, the storytelling is polished enough to keep auds hooked and occasionally surprised.Boyd van Hoeij, Variety, 12.08.2011
A feeble stab at topicality from that master of overripe Gallic melodrama, Cedric Klapisch.Nick Schager, Village Voice, 12.06.2011
True, the movie sidesteps a couple of cliches it seems headed directly toward, but I might have preferred them to the preposterous melodrama it substitutes.Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times, 02.01.2012
Paints an alluring picture of a pan-European cosmopolitan culture whose characters hopscotch from one country to another with hardly a second thought in a lighthearted floating party.Stephen Holden, New York Times, 12.08.2011
